The Foundation

If you’re anything like an entrepreneur online, this will be the most important part of your journey…the foundation.  The fact is that a lot of people who begin to have a business online miss the point of laying a proper foundation.  They get caught up in all the hype and the shinny object syndrome. As you’re building your online business you will begin to learn more about yourself and self-discipline than ever before.

The shinny button syndrome gets us all at one point in time.  Learn how to curve the beast from within and have rules in your business.  Don’t believe me, stick around long enough and you’ll begin to see it happen and might even catch yourself getting drawn into the bright lights.

Having a proper foundation is the key to it all.  The word foundation means, “an underlying basis or groundwork of anything.”  So if you build your business on quicksand, after awhile you are going to be up to your head before you know it.  Try not to look at your online business as a get rich scheme or going to make a quick buck.  Plan it out, ask yourself questions, set goals, have standards.

When you build your business online, it’s just like any other brick and mortar business besides the fact that it’s virtual and online.  A lot of times, brick and mortar bushiness’s are looking for ways to break into the online arena because they understand that it carries a lot of weight when it comes to missing those customers who use devices such as cell phones, iPads and mobile devices now-a-days.

If you are not online you can potentially loose a lot of business. Period!  Understanding that in today’s age, everyone is using the internet, and the internet is still in it’s infancy stage. (go figure)

Take a moment and just think about Facebook, started Feb 4th 2004 and only being 10 years old (at the time of this writing), what would of happened if Mark Zuckerberg just kept his thought process in his head and not online?  Where would one of the biggest social juggernauts be today, where will they be 10 years from now?  Think about it.

When you are laying the foundation to the idea of starting an online business you may have a paradigm shift in your way of thinking and operating.   The reality is that it is achievable and you can and will do it.  What is possible is awesome.

The key to it all is not so much what you learn in business or life, but it’s what you do with the information.  The key to unlocking it all is to take action.

Breaking Through Time Constraints

The problem that a lot of people run into is that they cannot manage their time effectively to take a couple hours out their day to manage and run their business.  What if I told you that we all have the exact time in the day (which is 24 hours).  How are you using your time? How you choose to spend your time is what makes each and every one of us unique.  Find a way to make time to put in and it will reward you.  Think of it as watering a plant.  If you choose not to water the plant everyday and give it the proper sunlight will that plant grow properly?

Time holds us back, and having only 24 hours a day, well that’s something that we can’t change.  What the focus needs to be is figuring out a way to leverage the time that is available to successfully work within those time constraints.

The easiest thing to do is to get stressed out and feel overwhelmed.  Stop!  Does it really change the situation to worry about it and stress over it?

Learning The Fundamentals

The one fundamental that I want you to take away, and it should be the only focus (at this point) is to create systems.  By doing so, you’ll be able to remove yourself and allow your business to run efficiently later on.  By focusing on creating systems you’ll know if you have a fly by night or a solid business.  Think about McDonalds and the system that they have in place.  Their system if replicable and may seem so simplistic however their system earns them millions of dollars a day! Yes, a day.

How much further ahead will you be than the person who comes online and thinks they are going to make a million dollars a month, has no system in place and is just winging it with no direction?

What if you have a series of auto-responders set up for 30 days, you have products that you created that solves a specific problem/challenge in someones life, sales pages that converts and a systematic sales funnel in place when someone wants to buy what you have to sell…do you think you’ll be in business longer and make more money on a  consistent basis?

As you practice your one kick (the fundamentals) 10,000 times you will have a well oiled machine in place that you can then replicate and recreate in another market if you so choose.

Decide and Take Action

There’s a saying that the average millionaire fails 17 times.  Do you think that he or she just thought of an idea and did absolutely nothing, or did they get out there and put their system in place and try it?

As long as you have a solid business structure (systems in place) this will give you more confidence to take action.  It’s just like learning to ride a bike at first. You have your frame and training wheels (the foundation), you have your bicycle chains, which represents the system (the mechanics behind getting from point A to point B).

Now, you have the foundation and the system in place you must take action to get to your desired destination.  By taking action, applying force to the pedals, you then begin to move chain which then turns the wheels as the moment is building and thrusting you forward.  Your concentrated action is moving the system as a whole and allows you to get to your desired outcome.

Learn From Past Mistakes

How much easier will it be to learn from mistakes and view them as a learning opportunity to ask, “What could I have done differently and what can I do differently next time?”  Very powerful question to ask yourself when you may have missed the mark.  Keep it close, use it.

Try and fail until you can’t fail anymore. Once you cannot fail anymore you will become a success.  It’s a proven scientific fact!  Don’t believe me, again…try it.  Think about how many times Thomas Edison failed (10,000 times).  His response:

“I have not failed. Ive just found 10,00 ways that won’t work”

Don’t view failure as something that is bad, this is what 90% of people do. Then they give up, throw in the towel, quit, wonder why they don’t have the results that they want.  Write down the ways that didn’t work and ask yourself the question above, “What could I have done differently and what can I do differently next time?”

By setting these short ideas into practice you’ll gain the insights and knowledge to get your business up and running in a systematic way.  Maybe you were overlooking these simplistic yet important factors in your day-to-day operations.  Use them, try them and see the results that you so desire and take action and begin to cease the day.
